Basic Information
Elmwood Elementary School educates students in kindergarten through 5th grade. We are the Panthers and our school colors are black and gold.
All of our students must be residents of Elmwood Park, Ill., a Near West suburb of Chicago with a population of about 25,000.
As part of Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401, we share responsibility with John Mills Elementary for educating our community's K-5 children. (John Mills also offers pre-kindergarten instruction).
Our Mission
Elmwood's guiding philosophy and values are summed up in our mission statement:
The staff of Elmwood Elementary School believes that all students have the right to achieve their potential. Our main purposes are to facilitate academic achievement, foster positive behaviors and attitudes, and inspire our students to lifelong learning. Therefore, we as teachers will pursue continuous growth and develop our skills as educators.
Our Academics and Support Services
We provide instruction in the core academic subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Our students also receive instruction in "specials" — ie., art, enrichment, music, physical education and technology.
Our accelerated learning and academic support programs include opportunities for advanced learners, instruction for English learners, assistance for students with reading difficulties, services for special education students and accommodations for Section 504 students.
Our Clubs and Student Activities
Elmwood students have numerous opportunities to develop their extracurricular interests, including a vibrant musical program.
Our many student organizations and activities include Art Club, Homework Club, Intramurals, Panther Fit Club, Panther Press, STEM Club, Student Council, TAP (Technology Apprentice Program) and Yearbook.
